Sales in the intermediate sport utility vehicle segment have dipped so far this year but Mazda's CX-9 three-row sport utility vehicle has been among those bucking the trend, Mazda Canada said.
Mazda is launching an upgraded version of its Mazda Connect infotainment system as standard equipment on the 2019 CX-9 intermediate SUV but also plans to offer retrofit kits for other models as far back as 2013.
Mazda says it will revive its famed rotary engine to power a range-extender hybrid vehicle as part of a wider plan to electrify its entire lineup by 2030.
Mazda said it lost 44,000 units of production, including some vehicles bound for Canada and the U.S., because of heavy rains this summer. The disruption will cost Mazda US$249 million.
Mazda is making a concerted effort to steal some sales from the lower end of the premium market with a new Signature trim level. “It's a natural step for Mazda," says Sean Claessen of Bond Brand Loyalty.
