Volvo will accelerate its shift toward electrified models by offering its new V60 with two plug-in hybrid powertrains. US customers initially will be offered only the more powerful of the two: the T8 plug-in hybrid.
Volvo is counting on its first model in the fast-growing premium compact SUV segment to break a lot of new ground for the automaker while it simultaneously wins customers from rivals such as the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
Polestar, Volvo's stand-alone brand for high-performance electrified models, is mulling whether to increase production for its debut model, the 600-hp Polestar 1. Since last October, more than 5,000 people have said they're interested in the chance to buy the hybrid coupe.
